Was the NOS system used on the top speed run?

Is it really a NOS system?

Or is it compressed air used in conjunction with that exhaust arrangement?

Well done CT. Another person on the fastscooter forum failed to spot the purpose of the bottle and just assumed it was NoS.

The speed was measured over a very short distance; more of a speed trap, but the run-up was up to 1.5miles. Keith was running reasonably gently through first and second, and then holding back before ripping through 3rd and 4th as he approached the timing trap. He found it difficult to express just how hard the engine pulled in 4th gear, and this was with a 22/46 set-up on a pacemaker box.

The timing set-up was pukka TAG measurement equipment worth about six grand, so the organisers did stress that the competitors should look where they are going!

SURELY WITH A 22 X 46 SETUP MOST 200-225 SETUPS WOULD GRADUALLY CLIMB TO A 100MPH PLUS IF THE CONDITIONS WERE RITE ,IT MUST BE LIKE STARTING OFF IN 3RD GEAR THEN HAVING A 4TH 5TH AND 6TH GEAR , MIND YOU IT MITE TAKE A PUSH OFF OF THE START LINE TO GET IT MOVING :D

The important thing to remember is that this was not a standing start 1/4 mile sprint. Keith has just about as long as he needed to get the scooter up to speed, and the incredible torque of the engine allowed it to pull 11,000rpm in top. Such a "slow" start gives the clutch a much easier life.

I would imagine the set up used for the speed run would be unusable on the road. You would rarely get into 4th unless you had a good clear run on a motorway.

I cannot re-produce the photos that are available elsewhere on the www, but please follow the hyperlink to fast scooter, where there are some excellent photos taken by Tony O'Brien. The scooter is on show at Kegra's shop, and Keith will be bringing it to the Mersea Island Scooter Rally on Saturday 5th of September. I doubt if Keith will run the scooter at Mersea (even though there is a dyno present), but you should be able to get up close and personal with both the bike and Keith (who is an excellent raconteur).

Martin
