Hi, mate has just contacted me on Facebook asking this...

Quote:
The back wheel of my lammy keeps sticking - slow speed and a black residue and burning smell on the rear wheel - it happen before when then hub seized-any ideas what is causing it

I said I thought it might be his pads sticking or maybe his return spring, i have not seen it in the flesh, so just thought I would ask on here. I have offered to take a look for him, but he said his hub seized so could this of happened again? Cheers

black residue is perfectly normal on rear rims but if concerned then remove rear hub and investigate, it may be that shoes are so badly worn that the brake cam is jamming on at slower speeds.

Right, I had a look a took his hub off, everything looked ok, until I looked at the splines on the hub. Rather than being 6 or so long channels for the hub to fit on, the hub had not been fitted right and it had cut into these about halfway... hard to explain but it looked a bit dangerous to me? There were bits of metal in there and all sorts, checked it all over, seems only the actual hub is damaged, the threads and pads etc look fine, checked all the springs.

The hub nut actually undid by hand, and his locking kit was doing nothing as the nut had been spinning and the bottom edge had ground smooth... He said the chap who fixed it last time had replaced the hub... i think he just put it back on... it's a pretty unusual paint colour - he said he had matched it - if I get a pic of it i'll post it.

That's nothing, his is 100 times worse than that, it is cut pretty much half way through!!
And some Lambretta bod told him not to bother with a new hub, a new nut and locking kit would do!
