Well hopefully the whole saga will be here and searchable for others to refer to for some years to come. I wouldn't want anyone else to have to go through this :roll:

just read this through-i have almost the exact same problem; but just starting at the beginning of the fault finding

if im reading it right? the problem was with your mis match of barrel/head/gasket set and its porting?
is that right?

the latest clue ive been given is my 30 yr old fresco is no good-shame
about to try starting without the exhaust on

We came to the conclusion that the barrel was overported. With a shedload of fuel thrown at it, it might have been a good runner but not with the Jetex I was running. Try a different barrel & piston if you've eliminated everything else.

I replaced mine with a much less ported barrel which I've also had rebored and fitted a new piston. Runs beautifully. Sadly the bike is for sale now...
